Start making plans to join us for our 2012 International Society for the Social Studies Annual Conference in beautiful and diverse Orlando, Florida. The 2012 ISSS Annual Conference will be held at the Fairwinds Alumni Center at University of Central Florida, March 1-2, 2012.
With scholarly presentations and practical teaching workshops on various social studies related topics from prominent experts, the ISSS conference provides a platform for all educators to engage in rich dialogue about the social studies. For university faculty, teacher educators, curriculum specialists, social studies department leaders, undergraduate and graduate students, as well as P-12 teachers, the conference features presentations that appeal to all. The ISSS conference has featured presenters from across the United States as well as across the world. The conference has featured numerous presenters from Portugal, Canada, India, Malaysia, Australia, Thailand, South Korea, China, Nigeria, and a host of other countries presenting on various social studies topics.
The 2012 ISSS Annual Conference theme is "Social Studies in a Global World" and we encourage you to submit a proposal to present by November 15, 2011. Proposal Submissions will be accepted starting in Summer 2011.
ISSS 2012 Annual Conference Proposal Submission
Proposal Submission Deadline - November 15, 2011
Proposals are peer reviewed as they are submitted. The peer review process typically takes 2-4 weeks.
The International Society for the Social Studies invites proposals for sessions that discuss effective teaching ideas, reports on research, and/or conceptual analyses of various social studies topics.
PRESENTATION FORMATS
Regular Presentation: Regular presentations provide individuals with about 15-20 minutes to present their information. Regular presentation topics range from teaching ideas to research reports. Regular presentations are grouped by topics in a 50 minute session. Each regular presentations session typically includes 2-3 regular presentations by different presenters.
Teacher Workshop: Teacher workshops are typically “how to” sessions designed for the p-12 educator. Teacher workshops are 50 minutes in length.
Panel/Symposium: A panel/symposium is designed to explore a specific topic through active discussion. This type of session may showcase a panel discussion among the participants and discussants. Panel/Symposium sessions are 50 minutes in length.
Poster Session: Poster sessions range from teaching ideas to research reports. Each poster presenter displays his/her poster in a 50 minute session. Each poster sessions includes 8-12 poster presenters. Standard poster boards are provided.
TECHNOLOGY & FACILITIES
The International Society for the Social Studies is very proud of the conference facilities and technologies. The ISSS Annual Conference provides all presenters with quality technology to enhance the conference experience. Every presentation room is equipped with wireless Internet, LCD Projector, PC Laptop, video screen, and quality audio speakers. If you plan to use any additional equipment, you must bring your own.
